Your Attention, Please

To live a beautiful life, we must live according to what we value.  We have a finite amount of time in each day.  We can use our energy in ways that enhance or detract from our happiness and fulfillment.  Do your choices and actions reflect what you want for your life?

What is important to you?

If you’re unclear or you’ve forgotten then try brainstorming.  Write down things that make you happy, when you last smiled, what gives you a sense of accomplishment, goals you have, dreams you once held.  If you could design your life, where and how do you see yourself in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years?  (Note: you can design your life.)

Are you spending your time and energy accordingly?

If you’re not sure then make a list.  Write down how you spend your time daily, weekly, monthly, even yearly.  What did you do yesterday evening?  Start with whatever is easiest.

Assign the level of importance for each entry, on a scale of 1 to 5, (5 being the most important).  Evaluate your list.  Are you living according to what you value?  If so, congratulations!  If not, then make some adjustments.

Troubleshoot your activities.

We can easily get bogged down by activities that don’t enhance our lives.  We will live a more beautiful life if we pay attention to what is important to us and eliminate what is not.

Take a closer look at your scale.

What is important to us will include components that are not always fun.  Value is not the same as fun.  The scale should reflect how much you value something, not how much fun you have (although it’s possible to have both).

Eliminate what is unimportant.

Once you’ve gone through this exercise, consider eliminating everything evaluated 1 and 2.  Sometimes we do things out of habit.  Maybe we feel obligated, but to no greater purpose.  Do you know how to say no?  What we value can change over time; perhaps your actions don’t reflect your current values.  Maybe it’s just clutter.

Live your life on purpose.

To live a beautiful life, we must live our lives on purpose.  That means being aware of why we do what we do, as well as how we do what we do.  Our choices dictate our actions.  Our actions determine our lives.

Your beautiful life is worthy of your attention, please.
