Wishing you all a very happy first week of December! I know, how did that happen? With the holiday season approaching, many of us could benefit from…Personal Jesus 🙂 Here’s Depeche Mode performing live in Paris. Original lyrics and credits, below. Here’s a story for you to go with this song. Enjoy!
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who’s thereReach out and touch faith
Feeling unknown
And you’re all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I’ll make you a believerTake second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know I’m a forgiverReach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faithYour own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Jesus
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who’s thereFeeling unknown
And you’re all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I’ll make you a believerI will deliver
You know I’m a forgiverReach out and touch faith
Your own personal Jesus
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faithReach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith

Hi Frank! I’m happy to introduce you to this song. A bit of trivia: Rolling Stone ranked Personal Jesus #377 of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It’s also been covered by Marilyn Manson (my favorite version), Johnny Cash, Sammy Hagar, Jerry Williams, Nina Hagen, Gravity Kills, Lollipop Lust Kill, and Richard Cheese.

I love this song, but I do prefer the Marilyn Manson remake 🙂
Also, funny blip about this song? My extremely religious MIL tapping her fingers and singing, “Jesus” along with it in my car. Tremendous. 😛

Hi Jolene! Glad that you enjoyed this one — and that I’m not alone in my preference for Marilyn Manson’s remake 🙂 That is too funny…it’s a bit of a detour from church hymns. Interestingly, I’ve never associated this song with religion despite the lyrics. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Violator. Great album. Great tour. DM always brought the energy. Gahan was a god on stage. Special shout out to Anton Corbijn who did Personal Jesus video and has gone on to great things directing Control, The American and A Most Wanted Man.

Absolutely, Andrew! In addition to the talents you mention, Gore’s songwriting is fantastic. Violator is still one of the best albums of all-time; here’s hoping there’s much more to come from them. Glad you like this one and thanks 🙂

Great song. Our local indy station plays it. It’s a great song on the drive home. Thanks for posting…I’ll have to check out the Marilyn Manson version…I’m not really into him, but it could be interesting.

I’m so glad you like this one! I hope you’ll enjoy Marilyn Manson’s version, but if not try Johnny Cash or Nina Hagen.
