What does it all mean? Here to help with our Roadhouse Philosophy are Jamey Johnson and Kid Rock performing Only God Knows Why. Cowboy’s pedal-steel guitar gets to the heart of our musings. A highlight of this live clip is the audience interaction [0:25].
Lyrics and credits, below. Enjoy!
I’ve been sittin’ here
Tryin’ to find myself
I need to get behind myself
I need to rewind myself
Lookin’ for the payback
Listen for the playbackThey say that every man bleeds just like me
And I feel like number one
Yet I’m last in line
I watch my youngest son
And it helps to pass the timeI take too many pills, it helps to ease the pain
I made a couple of dollar bills, but still I feel the sameEverybody knows my name
They say it way out loud
People f*ck with me so bad
It’s hard to hang out in crowds
I guess that’s the price you pay
To be some big shot like I am
Outstretched hands and one night stands
But I can’t find loveAnd when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be around
And when your walls come tumbling down
I will always be aroundPeople don’t know about the things I say and do
They don’t understand all the shit that I’ve been through
It’s been so long since I’ve been home
I’ve been gone, I’ve been gone for way too long
Maybe I forgot all the things I miss
In my heart I know there’s gotta be more to life than thisI said it so many times
And I still stand firm
You get what you put in
And people get what they deserve
Still I ain’t seen mine
No I ain’t seen mine
I’ve been giving just ain’t been gettin’
I’ve been walking that there line
So I think I’ll keep on walking
With my head held high
I’ll keep moving on and only God knows why….Come on, take me to the river
Take me to the river

Great song for a Saturday night. The security detail’s reaction time to the audience interaction leaves room for improvement. Cheers 🙂

Yes! It seems that they must have all been facing the audience and only realized something was amiss when they stopped playing. At least they got there before Kid Rock started swinging :).

I cannot seem to decide if I like Kid Rock or not.

I wonder what it is about him that causes many people to react — they either like him or don’t and not many are indifferent.

Absolutely love this song. Bonus that it’s from a fellow Detroiter.

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? The more I hear this performance the more I like Jamey Johnson. A lot of great music is out of Detroit. It must be something in the water.
Thanks for stopping by. It’s always nice to see you :).
