You Get What You Give (Live)

How’s it going, baby?  Awesome?  Great!
How about when the night is falling, and you cannot find the light?  If you feel your dreams are dying?
Hold tight.  Don’t let go.
You’ve got the music in you.
And I’m coming home, baby.
I feel the music in you.

Here to sing us through some life philosphy are New Radicals, performing “You Get What You Give” live on TFI Friday.

Original lyrics and credits, below.  Enjoy!  (Please note:  Lyrics have been modified for this performance.)

Wake up, kids
We’ve got the dreamers’ disease
Age fourteen
They got you down on your knees
So polite
We’re busy still saying please
Frienemies
Who when you’re down ain’t your friend
Every night
We smash their Mercedes-Benz
First we run
And then we laugh ’til we cry

But when the night is falling
And you cannot find the light (light)
If you feel your dreams are dying
Hold tight
You’ve got the music in you
Don’t let go
You’ve got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up
You’ve got a reason to live
Can’t forget we only get what we give

I’m coming home, baby
You’re tops
Give it to me now
Four A. M. we ran a miracle mile
We’re flat broke
But hey, we do it in style
The bad rich
God’s flying in for your trial
But when the night is falling
And you cannot find a friend (friend)
You feel your tree is breaking
Just bend
You’ve got the music in you
Don’t let go
You’ve got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up
You got a reason to live
Can’t forget
We only get what we give

This whole damn world can fall apart
You’ll be ok
Follow your heart
You’re in harm’s way
I’m right behind
Now say you’re mine
You’ve got the music in you

Don’t let go
You’ve got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don’t give up
You’ve got a reason to live
Can’t forget
We only get what we give
Don’t let go
I feel the music in you
Don’t let go
Fly high
What’s real can’t die
You only get what you give

Health insurance rip off lying FDA big bankers buying
Fake computer crashes dining
Cloning while they’re multiplying
Fashion shoots for Beck and Hanson
Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson
You’re all rich
Run to your mansions
Come on down
We’ll kick your asses

Don’t let go
One dance left

  1. This song still sounds great every time I hear it, and that applies to most of the album. I heard it again last week at the gym, among bland modern pop, repetitive dance & tedious hip-hop, and it was truly a breath of fresh air…much like your blog. Thanks for this post, and for the shout-out to my blog.

    Best….

    1. I agree and have that same experience when I hear it. Here’s hoping they’ll come out with more music someday. Your blog is my definitive guide to music and such a valuable contribution and resource — I hope many others will check it out.

Thanks, Rich. It’s always great to see you 🙂

      Have a lovely day.
