Mmm, lovely. Light froth rising in the matcha. The bamboo whisk really is an improvement over a fork and even a metal whisk. Who was I to argue with tradition for so long?
WOOOTWOOOTWOOTWOOOT —
“Shut the fuck up!”
Ah, nothing like the dulcet tones of neighborly love whilst basking in the warm glow of early morning light.
WOOOTWOOOTWOOOT —
“I’m trying to sleep, douchefucker!”
“Fuck you! I’m trying to make breakfast!”
Several of our intrepid heroes convene in the hallway. Sipping my matcha, I glance at the clock. 5:38 a.m. I close my eyes, inhale, feel a small smile form, and exhale. What luck that I’m already up and mindfully calibrated for the day.
WOOOTWOOOTWOOTWOOOT —
“For fuck’s sake!”
“I don’t know why it’s going off!”
WOOOTWOOOTWOOOT —
“Do something, fuck! Take action!”
.
Isn’t this good advice for life? When something is happening that you can’t tolerate, or something isn’t happening that’s driving you to distraction — take action, baby. Do something.
You can analyze, theorize, re-analyze and re-theorize running laps until your house burns down.
Taking Action
Sometimes taking action is the best solution, even when you don’t have all the answers.
How are you? Now, how are you really? Not happy? Actively unhappy? Is your own fire alarm screeching at you?
When to Take Action
When we’re at the I-just-can’t-take-it-anymore stage, action is often better than inaction. Action can mean a drastic change or adjusting existing conditions, and applies to all areas of our lives be it lifestyle, health and fitness (all aspects), employment, projects, relationships, and assorted emotional turbulence.
What Action to Take
How do we know what action to take? We’ve already analyzed and theorized and repeated. Maybe that’s helped and maybe not. Now, we need to assess the situation. What is the distance between what is and what we would like? What is the quality of the terrain?
Depending on the particulars, the solution may be simply to clear the smoke. Maybe reset the fire alarm. Maybe repair damaged items. Maybe it’s time for a significant change. Maybe it’s time to remove or replace, if there’s no salvaging the situation, and focus our energy on the newly-empty space or on the new and improved.
These are our lives. This one is yours, and it’s pretty important. It deserves your active participation.
Do something, baby.
.

Your audience is there, a lot of bloggers and readers come and go. There will be more.

Haha 🙂 Hank is tickled! He’s not albino though, just white with some brown highlights. I think the official term is ‘pinto’.
Thanks, always, for being awesome. 🙂

“Not deciding is to decide”
Always felt the uncomfortable truth of that one.
Time to change the batteries in the smoke alarm, perhaps.

Yes. It’s similar to understanding that everything changes, whether or not we participate. Even if we’re content, if we coast along we could lose what we enjoy the most.
Changing batteries is a good habit. Every six months, experts in these matters recommend.

“What is the distance between what is and what we would like? What is the quality of the terrain?”
These are such good questions. The answers are the beginning of action.

Thanks very much, Rob! I’m glad you believe these are good questions.
Sometimes we can get bogged down in our own analyses. Direct and practical questions can help us focus and take action.

Exactly…the simplest one being, “Why am I doing this? No-really, Why? No…I’m not being dramatic. Why?”

That’s an excellent starting point! We should all ask ourselves that very question, regularly.

I think every wise man whose ever lived once said: “When you think you’ve learned it all, return to the beginners mind”
